Caucasian Shirvan Marasali Prayer Rug - New
SOLD
$0.00
This is a brand new Caucasian Shirvan Marasali prayer rug (Namazlyg), made as a copy of a very old 200 year old “Flame boteh” design. This Antique of the Future was recently commissioned and woven in Azerbaijan to the most exacting standards. From beginning to end this project mirrors the way these rugs were made 100′s of years ago. Azeri sheep wool is shorn, hand-carded and spun by village women, who are paid a fair wage as part of a collective. The wool is 100% naturally dyed using natural substances like madder, spurge / euphorbia, indigo, pomegranate skins and onion skins. The weaver hand-loomed this rug in her home using a “cartoon” image #05 to the same standards as those rugs woven 100′s of years ago. Once it was woven, it was washed, stretched and dried. It is now ready to grace any floor, or be used as a fantastic wall mounting.
